North Canton Free Discovery Days Event Will Combine Kayaking, Wildlife And Live Music

Stark Parks will bring kayaking, live animals, beekeeping education and a free Canton Symphony Orchestra performance to North Canton during a Discovery Days event later this month.

The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, at Price Park, 1000 W. Maple Street. Admission is free, and no advance registration is currently required. The program is advertised as family friendly, with no specific age restriction listed.

Visitors will be able to try kayaking, see some of Stark Parks’ live animal ambassadors up close and learn about beekeeping. The activities are designed as informal experiences that families can explore during the evening rather than a single scheduled class.

A Canton Symphony Orchestra woodwind trio will perform from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the North Canton Civic Center Gazebo, 845 W. Maple Street. The Civic Center is directly across the street from Price Park, meaning visitors can move between the park activities and the concert during the two hour event.

The performance is part of the Canton Symphony’s Summer Serenades series, which brings small groups of musicians to parks throughout Stark County. The approximately hour long performances generally include light classical music, popular selections, patriotic pieces and jazz or folk music. Visitors are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets, picnic food and games.

The North Canton program is one of several Discovery Days events being paired with Summer Serenades concerts this year. Other Discovery Days programs were scheduled at Magnolia Flouring Mills and Canton’s Stadium Park, combining live music with activities intended to introduce residents to Stark County’s parks, wildlife and cultural resources.

Price Park covers more than 18 acres and includes a catch and release fishing pond, one mile paved walking path, playground, picnic shelters, restrooms and athletic courts. Alcohol is not permitted in North Canton city parks.
