Dutch Bros Coffee Proposed for Former Arby’s Site in Belden Village

Dutch Bros Coffee is planning its first Stark County location at the former Arby’s restaurant property in the Belden Village area, adding another rapidly expanding drive through beverage company to one of the county’s busiest commercial corridors.

Preliminary site improvement plans filed with the Stark County Regional Planning Commission identify the project at 4850 Everhard Road NW in Jackson Township. The property previously operated as an Arby’s restaurant and sits west of the Everhard Road and Dressler Road intersection. The mailing address is Canton, although the property is located within Jackson Township.

The plans call for the existing building, which is listed at approximately 3,845 square feet, to be removed and replaced with a significantly smaller Dutch Bros shop measuring 986 square feet. The proposed development would operate primarily as a drive through restaurant, although the plans show 12 indoor seats, 12 outdoor seats and 18 parking spaces.

The plans also show multiple ordering lanes, menu boards, vehicle stacking areas, a walk up window, landscaping, new pavement and a trash enclosure. Access would continue through the existing commercial drive system rather than adding an entirely new full access entrance onto Everhard Road.

The filing appears in the Regional Planning Commission’s project materials for August 2026. The project should currently be described as proposed and under development review. The filing does not mean Dutch Bros has received every permit needed to begin construction, and neither the county documents nor Dutch Bros has announced a construction schedule or opening date.

The proposed store would enter an increasingly competitive drive through coffee market in the Belden Village area. A separate 7 Brew Coffee development is underway nearby at the former Astoria Grill and Brown Derby property at 4670 Everhard Road NW. Dutch Bros and 7 Brew are unrelated companies and would operate as direct competitors.

Dutch Bros began in 1992 when brothers Dane and Travis Boersma left their family’s dairy business and started selling espresso from a pushcart near railroad tracks in Grants Pass, Oregon. The operation began with a double headed espresso machine and eventually developed into a chain centered largely around small drive through shops rather than traditional sit down coffeehouses.

The company expanded first throughout the western United States before moving into additional southern, midwestern and eastern markets. Dutch Bros became publicly traded in September 2021, when its Class A shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol BROS. Its initial public offering was priced at $23 per share.

By the end of 2025, Dutch Bros reported 1,136 shops across 25 states, including 811 company operated stores and 325 franchised locations. By March 31, 2026, that total had increased to 1,177 locations. The company’s current Ohio location directory lists five operating shops, with two in Cincinnati, two in Dayton and one in Milford. Although coffee remains central to the company, Dutch Bros has developed a broad beverage menu that includes cold brew, flavored espresso drinks, teas, lemonades, smoothies, shakes and its proprietary Rebel energy drinks. Dutch Bros reported that coffee based beverages accounted for approximately half of its sales mix in 2025, while energy drinks represented roughly one quarter.

The company now maintains its corporate headquarters in Tempe, Arizona, after relocating most of its headquarters operations from Grants Pass. It continues roasting and packaging coffee at facilities in Grants Pass and Melissa, Texas. Dutch Bros and its franchise partners reported approximately 32,000 employees at the end of 2025.

The Everhard Road proposal would bring that national expansion into Stark County and reuse a prominent former fast food property near Belden Village.
